March 2014
In Las Vegas, March has always been magnificent. While the rest of the country is still getting pounded with winter, snow, and ice; Las Vegas has been mostly clear and sunny (yes, we’re having a light rain today, but then we’re back in the low 70’s tomorrow.) …and this is the first precipitation that we’ve had since November…yes, we’ve had a mild winter. Spring is just around the corner (the vernal equinox is on the 20th—balancing the day and night,) and awakening that spirit of renewal.
The Celebration of Dionysus always took place about this time in Greece; celebrating the return of the leaves on the grapevines. It seems that there is something innate that is built into the core of our being that senses this time of regeneration for the earth. There have always been celebrations in the spring honoring that spirit of rejuvenation. It is the end of winter. Spring is about re-birth, life after death, and a fresh start after a cold period in our lives. Spring brings us hope.
March is a big month…the month kicks off with the Con/Agg Convention…the largest in the city. 150,000 people are anticipated to come to town and partake in this meeting that only occurs every three years. Students from all over the country will make Vegas their Spring Break destination; there is St. Patrick’s Day; March Madness; NASCAR; pools are opening up, and there are even some bright spots in the entertainment industry.
March is one of the best times of the year to come to Las Vegas. This is the time to get new things going. In Vegas, just like in any other city in the country, Spring-cleaning will occur (both for ourselves and our entertainment,) and we’ll have more garage sales this month than at any other time of the year. Springtime in Las Vegas is a beautiful thing…the weather is perfect, and there are thousands of events, conventions, shows, and things to do. I love the spring and the fall—everything seems to be just right. (I think that it’s the equinox…) Things are bustling, and we love it.
“Pin-up” and “MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET” both just celebrated their one-year anniversaries.
“Raack N’ Roll” quietly closed at the D.
