20 years of performing in Las Vegas, Penn & Teller extended their
show through 2018 at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino,
The
world-famous dance crew Jabbawockeez opened its all-new show, “PRiSM,”
at Luxor Hotel and Casino. A celebration of imagination, the show is an
eclectic mix of awe-inspiring choreography, captivating storylines and
stunning special effects.
The new Michael Jackson show, ONE, by Cirque du Soleil opened at Mandalay Bay. ONE is a theatrical evocation of Michael’s creative genius.
And
with just two shows under her belt as part of her two-year Las Vegas
residency in The AXIS Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino,
legendary pop icon Britney Spears opened her show, “Britney: Piece of
Me,” which debuted on Friday, Dec. 27.
“Centerfolds
of Magic,” with its all female ensemble of topless magicians, opened in
the Plaza’s showroom and then abruptly closed.
The D*Word-A Musical (*Ditched, Dumped, Divorced and Dating) ® opened at the Shimmer Cabaret inside the LVH. It played for about a month, and then closed.
Peepshow at Planet Hollywood closed after more than four years on the Strip.
The
Sirens of TI, at Treasure Island suddenly closed down to make way for a
new shopping center. The hotel is reportedly working on developing a
new water show until the reconstruction is final
“Raack n’ Roll” moved to the D Hotel. From the producers of X-Burlesque, an adult topless revue featuring
a scintillating cast of Las Vegas’ sexiest showgirls, dressed as
everything from naughty nurses to tantalizing teachers dancing to some
of the greatest rock songs of all time.
Defending the Caveman,
inside The Improv Showroom at Harrah’s Las Vegas and the longest
running solo play in Broadway history, announced the retirement of its
leading caveman, Kevin Burke. Fresh from breaking the Guinness World
Record for the most theatrical performances in a 50-day period, Burke
will retire his spear after ten years.
The
Broadway Theater, the 300-seat venue specializing in world-class
performance shows including “Broadway Celebration,” “Dancing Queen” and
“Shades of Temptation,” closed in July. The closure followed the
resort’s announced front features enhancement project.
The
Act nightclub stayed open for almost a year in spite of lots of legal
problems. Charges of obscenity haunted the club from the start. The Act
remained open for business while a district judge considered its fate.
The fight over its future exposed an underlying reality in Vegas; while
the city sells itself as a racy, no-holds-barred destination, there are
limits.
The
government has finally recognized the existence of Area 51, located 90
miles north of Las Vegas, according to the National Security Archive.
The Veronic show produced by Celine Dion was the best new shows to hit Vegas in years.
Criss Angel went in for shoulder surgery and will be out for about two months.
Frank
Marino reportedly went in for more cosmetic surgery to stay young
looking as long as possible. Frank may also have to move his show, Divas
Las Vegas, to an earlier time slot. There has been talk that,
"Peepshow," will be reopening in 2014 at the Quad. The show would be
reconceived with a smaller cast and lower budget.
The
Versailles Theater at the Riviera is currently undergoing an extensive
renovation. The hope is that it will be reopening in 2014.
Spider-Man
the Musical is in contract negotiations with the Venetian to be a part
of their lineup in 2015. This show is closing in New York and the
producers feel that Las Vegas is the perfect place to bring the show.
Dolly
Parton will perform her celebrated hits at Primm Valley Casino Resorts’
Star of the Desert Arena on January 25, 2014. The actress, author,
philanthropist and singer will serenade fans during her only stop in
Nevada for the first time in years.
Miss
Nevada USA Chelsea Caswell and Miss Nevada Teen USA Amanda Jenkins will
crown their successors at the Miss Nevada USA 2014 pageant at the
University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall at 6 p.m.
on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.
Remember, too, Elvis' Birthday is on January 8th. He would be 79!
